Pinhole Photography - How to make a pinhole lens for your dslr camera

Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day is always the last Sunday in April. In 2011, Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day is April 24. Since we have only few days left, today we will discuss how to make a pinhole lens for your dslr camera.

First we need a body cap that comes along with the camera, or you could buy cheap replacements and use it without spoiling your original.

The thickness of the cap is bound to adversly affect the results of our diy pinhole photography project so we will use a hand drill to drill out some of the plastic. Note this time we are not drilling a hole with the lens we are only taking out some of the thickness inorder to produce a neat hole in the camera body cap.

Next step is to put a hole using a very fine needle.

Now we will mount the camera body cap on to the body and try out some shots.

As you can see in the result below the result is nowhere near perfect, only reason we can think of is the quality of our hole so we are going to perfect our pinhole.

Using the drill we drilled a hole in the camera body cap.

Cover the hole with a sticky aluminium foil tape. Use some thinner and a piece of cotton or ear bud to carefully remove the adhesive from the center of the tape where we will be putting the hole. Else the adhesive layer might cause irregularities in the hole.

To make the smallest possible hole we grinded our needing using a pen wise and a carborundum stone.

Our perfected diy pinhole lens is now ready for testing.
