Home > Orchids of Kerala > Cheirostylis Cheirostylis![]() Cheirostylis Blume An Old World genus of about 25 species of delicate ground herbs, Cheirostylis is represented in India by 10 species .two species occur in Kerala . 1. Cheirostylis flabellata Wight , Ic.Pl. Ind. Or.5(1): 16.t. 1727. 1851: J.D. Hook. 1890: 105; Fischer in Gamble 1928: 1454 ;Seidenfaden 1978: 67; Abraham & Vatsala 1981 : 194; Joseph 1982; 48; 1987: 63. Goodyera flabellata A. Rich., Ann. Sci.Nat.2.s. 15: 79.t. 12. 1841. Monochilus flabellatum Wight ,Ic. Pl.Ind. Or. 5:t. 1727. 1851(sphalm). Epichile lobule of lip each with 4-5 long irregular fringes , cutting halfway into blade; neck portion with 2 green spots ; hypochile base with a single fat papilla on each side. Occurrence : Trivandrum , Idukki, Palghat Districts. Distribution : South India (Karnataka , kerala, Tamil Nadu) and Sri Lanka . 2. Cheirostylis seidenfadeniana Sathish & F.Rasm ., Nord.J.Bot.7 (4): 409 . 1987. This species described from kerala is closely allied to Cheirostylis parvifolia Lindl.from which it differs in floral details . Occurrence :Trivandrum District. Distribution : Local Endemic (Kerala). |
