Chrysoglossum Blume

An Indo-Malesian genus of about 6-10 species of terrestrial orchids, Chrysoglossum is represented in India by 3 species .Only one species occurs in Kerala.

1. Chrysoglossum maculatum (Thw.)J.D.Hook., fl. Brit.Ind. 5: 784. 1890 ; Fischer in Gamble 1928: 1421: Jayaweera in dassnayake & Fosberg 1981: 1421: Jayaweera in Dassnayake & Fosberg 1981: 126; Abraham & Varsala 1981: 292; Seidenfaden in Matthew 1983 : 1603; 1999: 1249.Ania maculata Thw., Enum .Pl. Zeyl. 301 . 1861.

Column of this species is very peculiar with two triangular or rounded wings .Originally described from Sri Lanka where it is believed extinct .

Occurrence : Trivandrum , Idukki, Palghat,Wayanad and Kasargod Districts .

Distribution : South India (Kerala , Tamil Nadu) and Sri Lanka.
