Home > Orchids of Kerala > Disperis DisperisDisperis Swartz A paleotropic genus of about 80 (mostly African) species of delicate ground orchids, Disperis is represented in India by two species , both found in Kerala.
Described by Wight based on a collection from Nilgiris ' in woods an large mossy stones, and moist loose stegetable soil' Occurrence : Idukki, Palghat and Wayanad Districts. Distribution : Regional Endemic (Kerala, Tamil Nadu). Disperis tripetaloides sensu Lindl. , Gen. Sp. Orch. 371. 1839('tripetaloidea') [excl. basionym Dryopeia tripetaloides Du Petit-Thouars 1822]; Wight 1844-45 :t. 930. Disperis neilgherrensis auct .non Wight 1851: Fischer in Gamble 1928: 1477. This is a smaller plant when compared to Disperis neilgherrensis and has rose coloured flowers in contrast to the white flowers of that species . Occurrence : Trivandrum District. Distribution : South India (Karnataka , Kerala and Tamil Nadu ) and Sri. Lanka. |
