An Indo-Malesian genus of 12 species of epiphytic orchids, Papilionanthe is represented in India by 5 species . Only one species has so far been recorded from kerala .

Lindley utilized collections by wallich and Wight for describing this speceis .

Occurrence : Trivandrum , Idukki , Palghat and Wayanad districts.

Distribution : South India (Karnataka , Kerala and Tamil Nadu) and Sri Lanka .
