Home > Orchids of Kerala > Porpax PorpaxPorpax Lindley An Indo-Malesian genus of 12 species of epiphytic or lithophytic orchids, Porpax is represented in India by 6 species . Two species are found in Kerala .
Lichenora jerdoniana Wight , Ic. Pl . Ind. Or. 5 (1) : 18 . t. 1738. 1851. Eria lichenora Lindl., J. Linn. Soc. 3: 46. 1859 ; J.D. Hook . 1890 : 787. Originally described as a separate genus Lichenora by Wight based on Jerdon's collection from Malabar Mountains , this was transferred to Porpax by Lindley . Occurrence : Trivandrum , Idukki , Thrissur , Palghat and Kannur Districts . Distribution : Regional Endemic?( Maharashtra , Karnataka , Kerala , Tamil Nadu). There is one recent report of this species from Andamans also . But we haven't seen that collection .
Eria reticulata (Lindl) Benth ., Gen. pl. 3 : 509. 1833; J.D. Hook 1890 : 786. Porpax papillosa Blatt . & McCann , J. Bombay Nat. Hist. Soc. 35 : 268 .f. 4. 1931. This was described by Lindley based on Loddiges collection from 'East Indies' Occurrence : Trivandrum and Palghat Districts, Distribution : Western Ghats (Maharashtra , Karnataka , Kerala , Tamil Nadu) of India and Laos . |
