Rhytionanthos Garay, Hamer & Siegerist

An Indo-Malesian genus of about a dozen species of epiphytic orchids, Rhytionanthos is represented in India by six species .rhytionanthos indicum two species occur in Kerala .

1. Rhytionanthos indicum Sathish & Garay , ined.

This is a new species under publication

Occurrence : Trivandrum District.

Distribution : Regional Endemic (Kerala, Tamil Nadu).


2. Rhytionanthos rheedei (manilal 7 Sathish ) Garay , Hamer , rhytionanthos rheedeiSiegerist , Nord. J. Bot. 14 (6) : 639 . 1994 .

Bulbophyllum rheedei Manilal & Sathish , Rheedea 1: 55 . 1991 .

Epidendrum sterile var. gamma Lam. , Encycl. Meth. Bot. 1: 189. 1783.

This was first illustrated and described by Van Rheede from Kerala . Rheede had only a sterile specimen and hence his description very cursory , both didn't help the later commentators . We got flowering samples enabling us to describe in detail as a new species . garay et al. (1994) found this belong to their Rhytionanthos .

Occurrence : Trivandrum , Alappuzha and Idukki Districts.

Distribution : Regional Endemic (kerala , Karnataka ).
