Thelasis

Thelasis Blume

An Indo-Malesian genus of about 25 species of epiphytic orchids., Thelasis is represented in India by four species . Only one species occurs here.

1. Thelasis pygmaea (Griff) Bl., Fl. Jav. 23. 1858; J. D. Hook. 1890: 86 ; Fischer in Gamble 1928: 1450; Seidenfaden 1986: 156.

Euproboscis pygmaea Griff., Calc. J. Nat. Hist. 5: 171 . T. 26. 1845; Wight 1851: 17 .t. 1732.

Griffith described this species after a Nepal collection that flowered in Calcutta Botanic Garden . Due to the small size and unattractive nature this species is very rarely collected.

Occurrence : Idukki and Palghat Districts.

Distribution : India to Southeast Asia .
