Thrixspermum

Thrixspermum Loureiro

An Indo-Malesian genus of about 165 species of epiphytic orchids, Thrixpermum is represented in India by eight species and a solitary variety . Three species are known from Kerala .

1. Thrixspermum pulchellum (Thw. ) Schltr., Orchids 5: 57 . 1911. Jayaweera in Dassanayake & Fosberg 1981: 193; Manilal & Sathish kumar 1986: 11. Dendrocolla pulchella Thw., Enum . Pl. Zeyl. 430. 1864.

Occurrence : Trivandrum District.

Distribution : South India (Kerala ) and Sir Lanka .

Thwaites described this species based on a Sri Lankan collection . We (Manilal & Sathish Kumar 1986) reported this for the first time from India (See fig. 27& pl. XVc)

Nair & Mohanan (1982) reported this species for the first time from India .

Occurrence : Quillon District .

Distribution : India to Borneo .

Thrixspermum arachnites auct. non (bl.) Rchb.f. : Abraham & Vatsala 1981 : 458 .

This species was originally described from Sri Lanka . We found it growing in Alattil , Wayanad .

Occurrence : Wayanad District .

Distribution : South India (Kerala) and Sri Lanka.
