Vanda Jones ex Robert Brown

An Indo-Malesian genus of about 40 species of epiphytic orchids, Vanda is represented in India by 11 species . Four species are known from kerala .

Vanda roxburghii R. Brown ., Bot.Reg. 6 : t. 506 . 1820 ; Wight 1844-45 : 10.t. 916; J.D. Hook. 1890: 32.

Roxburgh (1795) described this species after a collection from the Circars .

Occurrence : Trivandrum , Idukki ,Malappuram Districts.

Distribution : India , Sri Lanka and Burma.

Lindley described this species after a collection by Macrae from Sri Lanka .

Occurrence : Trivandrum , Quilon , Idukki , Trissur, Palghat, Callicut and Kannur Districts .

Distribution : India , Sri Lanka to Burma , Thailand and Southern Yunnan.

Originally reported from Sri Lanka where it is now believed extinct , this species was recently rediscovered from Kerala and Karnataka .

Occurrence : Idukki , Palghat and Wayanad Districts .

Distribution : Southern India (Kerala , Karnataka ) and Sri Lanka (type ) .

tanda wightiiThis is again a recent rediscovery . Wight's collections now at Wien Museum were from Coimbatore and 'Palghautcherry'. We got out plants from Sreekandapuram in Kannur Districts and Belthangadi in Karnataka .

Occurrence : Palghat , Kannur Districts.

Distribution : Regional Endemic (Karnataka , Kerala , Tamil Nadu).
