Vanilla wightiana auct. non Lindl . ex . J.D. Hook : Rao & Sudhakar 1984 (1986) : 197. This was described by Wight based on a drawing by Mrs . Walker from Ceylon . Rao & Sudhakar's (1986) record of Vanilla wightiana from Eastern Ghats is erronous . Their plant belongs here. Occurrence : Quilon and kannur Districts. Districts : Southern India (Kerala , Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh) and Sri Lanka (type). Vanilla aphylla auct. non. Bl. , nec. Rchb.g. : Lindley 1840 : 436 , in part ; Wight 1844- 45 t. 931 .: Sathish Kumar & Manilal 1993 : 394. Vanilla wightiana Lindl. ex J.D.Hook. a. habit, b. dorsal sepal, c. lateral sepal, d. petal, e. lip, f. scale in lip, g. column front view, h. operculum, i. pollinia Wight who first collected this species mistook it for Vanilla aphylla Bl. Lindley noted the novelty of Wight's specimen but was actually published by Hooker . Occurrence : Trivandrum , Pathanamthitta and Thrissur Districts. Distribution : Regional Endemic (Kerala , Tamil Nadu). |
