Home > Temples of Kerala > Akatthe Balivattam Akatthe BalivattamThe main constituent parts of akatthe-balivattamm(A in Diagam 6) are the sreekovil.the anthar-mandala,namaskara-mandapa,shrines of subsidiary deities etc.The garbha-grha or the sanctum-sanctorum is the most important.The sreekovil is surrounded at the outer by an imaginary square known as anthar-mandala where in the bali-peethas(oblation stones) are installed at directions of east,south-east,south,south-west,west,north-west,north and north-east representing Dik-paalakas.In addition there are positions for certain other deities also on the border line of anthar-mandala.In front of the garbha-grha and facing its principal entrance and also at the outer limit of anthar-mandala is the namaskara-madapa which is not an essential part of a temple,though it is seen in almost all important temples.There may also be sub-shrines of Gods or Goddesses within the anthar-mandala.
