Offering of ghee is the main vazhipaat which is done for the fulfilment of all desires. Women are allowed to enter within naalambalam only after atthazha-pooja. The general belief is that at that time Lord Siva is happy in the company of His consort Parvathi and He is benevolent to grant all the desires of His devotees, particularly women, who pray to Him with all humility and sincerity. It is believed that the sayaTJ:a-pradikshar1;a undertaken by devotees on Sivaraathri day would cure diseases like apasmaram (epilepsy). Another great temple is the Sree krishna temple, Thricchambaram, where the idol is installed in the sankalpa of Sree Krishna after slaying his uncle Kamsa. The devotee who does bhajanam spends his time in the temple when it is open and participates in all rituals like attending poojas, joining Sree-bali, taking part in naama-sankeerthanas (prayers), reading of scriptures¬devotional books and listening to discourses on puraanas. All these are done for getting cure from diseases as well as for fulfilment of wishes. There are special vazhipaats in this temple like appam-koozham (items to be given by the devotee are paddy, kumblanga, coconut, plantain, vellerikka, plantain leaves, ghee, jaggery, dried ginger, jeeraka, salt, kadali plantain, gingelly oil etc) and thanneramrtthu (items of rice, molasses, ghee) which is a kind of appam.
