The Amsumathi-aagama states that the origin of the word pradakshina is as follows. Prachhinntthi bhayam sarve Dakaromoksha siddhidah kshikaroth ksheeyathe rogonakaaram sreepradaayakam Pradakshinarnna samyogath pradakshinamithismrtham Thus each Sanskrit alphabet of Pra-da-kshi-na represents different meanings viz. pra means give, da granting of moksha, kshi relief from diseases, and na prosperity. In short the devotional round conducted in a temple bestows on the worshipper, knowingiy or unknowingly health, prosperity and ultimately moksha.
