Home > Temples of Kerala > Baahya Haara or Puratthe Outer Balivattam or Sivelippura Baahya Haara or Puratthe Outer Balivattam or SivelippuraBaahya-haara (D in Diagram 6), according to pancha-praakaara scheple comprises agra-mandapa (consisting of valiabalikkall or principal bali-peetha along with associated gana-devathas of the main deity), outer pradakshina veedhi, dwaja sthamba, kshethrapaala, kootthambalam, shrines of subsidiary deities etc. In short it covers all bali-peethas and structures in between the vilakkumaatam and the outer wall (maryaada) falling in pancha-praakaara scheme and those in between chuttambalam and maryaada in the case of chathur-praakaara scheme. There may also be cases where the maryaada as such is absent though the outer limit of the temple is identifiable by some foundation or fence or an imaginary limit.
