All these are done by chanting manthras of Siva, Vaamadevan, Aghora and Isaanan all of whom are based on different sankalpas or forms of Siva. The ground is then properly fenced and watered till the plants are flowered and ripened. The harvest is handed over to pious Brahmins and the remaining grazed by cows which are to be retained in the ground for three consecutive days. The place where cows have urinated is considered as utthama (best) and where their dung is seen as madhyama(ordinary). Once all these rites are completed the ground selected for the temple is considered as clean, purified and suitable. * Nell (paddy),Gothamb (wheat) Katala (Bengal gram), Ell (seasame) , Thuvara(red gram), Payar( green gram), Uzhunnu(black gram), Muthira(horse gram),and Mochakotta Thuvara(country bean)
