It is the place where during uthsava-bali specified cereals and pulses are germinated after thaanthric rites relating to the deity followed by bali. As per Kerala tradition the thitappalli (thatappalli) or kitchen must be located at the south-east side of naalambalam which is the position of the Agni-Devatha. All the cookings for the deity are done here and only approved priests are allowed to enter there and cook nivedyas.
