It in fact affords intellectual recreation and is often conducted in temples in the afternoon on festival days. Kootth has three forms viz. Prabandha-kootth, Nangiar-kootth, and Kootiyaattam. Of these the nature of Prabandha-kootth is that of narrations with explanations. Nangiar-kootth, on the other hand, is pure acting, while Kootiyattam is a dramatic art in which both Chaakkiar and the Nangiar (woman of Nambiar community) act together.
