In other words it is success of good over evil. In Patayani the performers are in the form of kolam and they march in procession which generally ends in front of the deity. The kolams include Bhairavi (representing Bhadrakaali), Kaalan (Yama), Yakshi etc. Each kolam has a huge head¬ gear in a triangular shape or any other shape with attractive colours and designs. The musical instruments of thapp and ilatthaalam are used for the patayani.
