The character of Poothan (Bhoothan) visits every house in the desom (the jurisdiction of the Bhadrakaali temple) and plays and blesses the houses. On the last day or se¬lected day Thira, representing the deity, visits and blesses the devotees. Persons from Vannamar and Paraya communities take part in this folk dance; which is associated with the temple festival. Poothan has a semi-circle head-gear, the face resembling a demon. The thira (thara) on the other hand has heavy wooden head-gear represent¬ing engravings, sometimes depicting the symbolic representation of the Goddess.
