The only one action which was jointly undertaken by the Devas and Asuras for the first time, is Paalazhimathanam. In this story, there are many philosophical peculiarities. The churning is in an ocean. The churning stick is a mountain. A huge rope is used to bind around the mountain with its both ends free. The one end of the rope is taken by the Devas and the other end by the Asuras. A huge number of materials derived from the churning like the butter from the curd. It was from this churning lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and plentyness and the Nectar which provides the Eternity, derived. All other things derived from the ocean, prior to lakshmi and the Nectar were incessantly carried away by the Devas and Asuras. Most of the good products were taken off by the Devas. Then the Asuras might have secretly taken a decision to take off the Nectar stealthily as early as possible when it occurs. However it was happened. This was the evolution of the Paalaazhimathanam. There are some other backgrounds also in this story. The devas had never decided to share the Nectar with the Asuras. Though they are the co-strivers. They would never give the Nectar to the Asuras to see themselves the enemies having no death and gray for and eternal time. This was unbearable to the Devas. It was extremely a cheating in the part of Devas. The Asuras also decided not to give the nectar to the Devas because they will become more able and powerful, if they have it. That should not be happened. That is why by keeping this idea the Asuras agreed to join with the Devas for the churning. The goal is the Nectar, which is holy and divine. The way adopted to get it by the both sides was crude and cunning. It is not so precise to accept crude way for achieving a noble aim. The unrighteous desires end in inauspicious results. From the inauspicious results, adventurous practices are begun. The adventures are Karmas, which are done with our sensuous organs and organs of activity (Jnanendriya and Karmendriya)for the attainment of desires. Among the categories of god (Iswara) Devas and human beings, the human beings if they have to get pleasure and calmness in life, they have to strive with their body. The Devas will attain it by thought and ardency of mind. But the God has no need of ardency or even body, because the desired and the attainment are existing in the god itself. The god has not any need of an outer image since he is complete. If the human beings or gods could not achieve the desired with their physical or mental striving. They turned to the vicious ways led by the selfishness. This type of turned actions will end in akarma or vikarma. Then contradictory result will end, for at least a short period, and there may arise the good results. This effect of karma is seen in paalazhimarthanam. The first result of the churning was the dangerous venom called the Haalahalam. The flow of the venom was as powerful as to destroy the whole world by its unvenial fire, heat and smoke. This venom was really the reflection of the mentality of cheating each other of the two groups. No one should do any fraud action like this, otherwise it will annihilate all the society. Here the kind Samkara is to protect the Devas and Asuras from total annihilation by drinking the inflammable venom. In this way the Samkara, the god of destruction, arrived here to protect the world. The important cause of all the happiness and miseries of human society is the intellect of the mind (Manah eva manushyanam karanam banddhamokshayoh) but, it is this mind which helps to unite the man from the bondage of karmas and to lead him to moksha. When the mind leads us to the bondages using its intellect and ego at the same time it leads us to jnana and moksha with the help of this same intellect and ego. Therefore we feel that the power of destruction changes into the power of protection. Siva destroys the whole with his fire of anger. Siva is the basic god of our own conscience of egotism. That means when a man feels his ego within his physique is Sivaswarupa. One’s innermost eye of wisdom is like Siva’s third eye which also is the intellect. The ego joins with the intellect and he himself is burned with the fire of vitures. The intellect and the ego destroys all, with the fire of tendencies through the innermost eye like the third eye of Siva. The only difference is that Siva annihilates the outermost world, the individual destroys his own world with the tendencies of his life. With the power of vicious activities the mind may be changed. Then he may pray to the God to protect him from the curses. The foundation of vicious activities conducted by the ego will change into the power of protection at this time. The karma is a bridge through which we can go to both the sides of river, the organs by which the karmas are doing, can be converted to the form of Yoga (Yogarupa) as well as the form of consumption (bhogarupa). Our body, the sensual and other organs and the conscience all are churning the Kshirasagara of intellect with the attitude of cheating. The first result , as it was told before, is the kalakuda, the disastrous venom. The unexpected and adverse result is suddenly idenfified and all the organs are surrendered to the almighty at once. Then the venom will be disappeared, this is the spiritual aspect of the story.
