Ayyappa the symbol of matter and reason of the universe

The birth of Ayyappa was a wonderful event in the history of kerala. The history of Ayyappa is the interpretation of two concepts, the karya and karana (matter and cause) since kama, karma and kala. The incarnation of Sasta after the mingling of Siva and Vishnu, is depicted in the part of karya. The amusements he executed for the fulfillment of his aims of incarnation and its ending in the yogabhava is included in the part of kaarana.

The principle of creation of universe is based on Karya and Kaarana. For example the smoke is rising, is a karya (matter). The reason is that there is fire. If the smoke is seen without seeing fire, though we can imagine that there is fire. Like this, in the place of smoke, think this universe and in the place of fire, think the Iswara.

The relation between Karya and Karana can be seen in all aspects of life. The Karmas and Karmavasanas (tendency to do any karma) of each and every human being is the reason for all the miseries and problems of their own life. The cause for all karyas of a man is itself the karana of himself. Even the cause of our own birth is ourself. In other words the creator of the small ‘I’ is the big ‘I’, the small ‘I’ can be called jivatma and the big ‘I’ can be called the paramatma. The jivatma is always created, protected and destroyed. But the Paramatma is not created by anybody but is the self being.

The intellect which identifies the small ‘I’ and the big ‘I’ is called the tatwabuddhi (the intellect of principles), this identification is called jnana and the status of that jnana is called advaitabhava (the realization that there is only one God which is the Brahmam). The Iswara and the Jivatma may have the equality in the feeling of existence. The Iswara and the jivatma are existing simultaneously at the same time; but the existence of Jivatma is not enduring. The Iswara should have to be enduring. It is Iswara only who is existing for ever. The Jivatma is really the Iswara that is the advaita.

The state of advaita, or the karya and the karana, both are one and the same. This idea can be revealed through the depiction of Sridharma Sasta. The state of creation, protection and destruction of the Jivatma and the state of not being the creation, protection and the destruction in respect of Iswara have been interpolated episodically in the story of Ayyappa.

The jivatma is created. The creation of jivatma is from the avidya of paramatma and from the nature of Maya which has not any existence without the Paramatma. Here is the Mahadeva who ardently loved the Mohini. Then the Maya and the iswara have singleness. The Vishnu is Siva. The Vishnu’s is Maya. The Parabrahmam and the Paramapurusha is one. The result of amusements was the birth. This was the karya since the prakruti – purusha are existing as the karana.

The peculiarity of the creation which is the karma of jivatma is seen here in the history of Ayyappa. Since he was protected by the king. He was since sent for the milk of leopard with hidden aim of killing him is equal to kill the jivatma. Just to this point, we have been watching the jivatmabhava of Iswara. Henceforth, we may see the brahmabhava of Iswara who is beyond the bhava of creation and destruction. Ayyappa who brings the milk of leopard does not being a son of anybody. By bringing the leopard he became the God. The leopard is also the symbol of time. Ayyappa was believed that he should be killed by the time of searching the leopard. It is the time which kills everything. If the leopard is time he won the time. The swami, the yogi who became the Iswara by giving the milk of the time, the good teachings about the life, or about the jnana to others, because the symbol of immortality and became the Iswara who is the karanarupa after giving up the leopard or the time. By renouncing the bow and the arrows, he received the Cinmudra and became the Mahaguru.

It is hereby elucidated that the advaitabhava with the relation of karyakaranas the evershining light of Sri Ayyappa persists on the top of the Sabarimala for ever.
