All days in the month of Vrschikam and Dhanu are observed as important in all temples in Kerala, particularly after the importance gained to the rituals of the Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala. In certain years Makara-vilakk falls on 1st of Makaram instead of on the last day of Dhanu. Similarly the month of Karkkatakam is considered as significant as Raamaayana month and is celebrated in all temples and also the in houses of Hindus.
