Home > Temples of Kerala > Temple rites Maathru and Nirmalyadhaari prathishthasThe rites connected with maathru-prathishta and Nirmaalyadhaari-prathishta are done on the forenoon of the seventh day simultaneously by the Aachaarya and his assistants respectively. The importance and details of saptha-maathrkkals and Nirmaalyadhaari were discussed earlier (see paragraphs 3.30 and 3.31). At first the sodhana-kriya of the saptha-mathru-sila is done followed by bhootha-samdhaara, soshana, bootha-srishti, lipi-praanaayaama-nyaasas, swa-manthra-praanaayaama, vyaapaka etc and then installed at the south of the dik-paala position of Yama (located at the south of the sreekovil by reciting prathishta manthra. Then in front of saptha-maathru-sila, nine kalasas (filled with water) and other items as specified earlier for kalasam specified order (Veerabadra at the centre, surrounded by kalasas of Gapapathi at east, Brahmi at SE, Maaheswari at south, Kaumarl at SW, Vaishnavi at west, Vaarahi at NW, Indranii at north and Chaamunda at NE) are kept and the concemed Devathas are invoked in them. Then abhisheka is done with these kalasas to the respective Devathas followed by bali and prasanna-pooja. Whenever homa is done for all Devathas the sampaatha is taken in nihe separate kalasas and used for abhisheka of Devathas. The procedure for the prathishta of Nirmaalya-dhaari is similar to maathru-prathishta with additional rite after the prathishta. After completing kalasaabhishekam, vasthra-pooja is done followed by offering of flowers and nivedya (which were offered to the main deity). Then the idol of nirmaalyadhaari is cleaned well and prasanna-pooja done with the concemed manthras. The prathishta of upa-Devathas (subsidiary deities) is also done at the same time following simplified procedure of prathishta after the various kriyas like sodhana, jalaadhivaasa, peetha-pooja, kalasaabhisheka, prasanna-pooja etc.
