Home > Temples of Kerala > Temple rites Nava-sakthi homaThis homa is done in the forenoon of sixth day, but in certain cases the same is conducted on the previous night also. The nava-sakthi homa is done at eight directions around the sreekovil, apart from the Aachaarya-kunda. The sites of these eight kundas are daubed with cow-dung and sand put over it and the homa-kunda made. The homa is conducted by offering plaasu twigs with moola-manthra and also ghee with gaayathri-manthra for 108 times. This is-followed- by swishtakridadi-homa and prasanna-pooja. The sampaatha of the homa is then put in a kalasa and deepaaraadhana (offering with lights) done. A separate padma is laid at the Isaana-kone (north-east) and a kalasa placed there upside down. After kalasa pooja the kalasa is put upright and rathna-nyaasa done. Then it is filled with the sampaathas of eight kundas. This kalasa is then subjected to pooja and udvaasana (the act of taking out from the fire) done. The kalasa is then placed on a padma, near the sayya. The description given here is brief, as the actual procedure is very elaborate and has different manthras at every stage. Pari-homa is done only for certain deities particularly for Vishnu, and Durga. (For details refer pages 137 to 139 of Kuzhikkatt paccha).
