Home > Temples of Kerala > nivedya NivedyaThe nivedya consists of different articles, depending either on the basis of the 'niyamam-nischayikkal' or the practice followed in each temple. The articles for nivedya are different such as malar (fried paddy), aval (beaten rice), plantains, sugar, molasses, thri-madhuram (a preparation of plantain fruit, honey, sugar or ghee), appam (sugared cakes), ata (a type of cake made of rice, coconut & molasses), tender coconut, betel leaves and arecanut, paalpaayasam (rice boiled in milk with sugar added and made into a porridge), iticchu-pizhinja- paayasam (made up of rice boiled with ghee, molasses and coconut- milk), aravanaor kathina-paayasam ( a special preparation of rice with molasses, cardamom and dried grapes), paanaka (a liquid made of water, molasses, chukk (dried ginger) and spices) etc. The nivedya varies according to the deity and from temple to temple.
