Home > Temples of Kerala > Temple rites Niyamam-nischayikkalJust after prathishta there is yet another rite known as niyamam-nichayikkal (ie an oath on fIxing up the procedures) by which the number of poojas, times of opening of temple, details of nivedyas, monthly and annual festivals etc are decided by the Yajamaana and told in the presence of all to the Aachaarya who is treated as the representative of the deity. Once it is decided it is the bounden duty of all to strictly adhere to it and any deviation or violation of this oath will seek the displeasure of the deity and adversities may befall on all. Therefore when details of oath are worked out the Yajamaana must be very careful to include only those items which can be enforced in future without diffIculty.
