Home > Temples of Kerala > Temple rites Parivaara and upa-deva prathisththasOn the forenoon of the seventh day the prathishlas of dik-paalas, Saptha-maathrkkals, peetha of valia-balikkall etc are done besides kriyas for upa-Devathas. The rites for them are not elaborate but restricted to simplified procedures. Two procedures are laid for parivaara-prathishla. As per the ideal procedure the bali-peethas etc. are also subjected to sodhana alongwith the rite of bimba-parigraha, ie, jalaadhivaasa, kalaSaabhisheka along with bimba-suddhi and keeping by the side of sayya along with the bimba and taken to the sreekovil with the bimba and offered hPma-kalaSa prescribed for ashta-dik-paalas. In such case it is only necessary to do the prathishta at the specified points (as already discussed in Chapter 3) with prathishta manthras of the concemed Devatha and prasanna-pooja. By the second method the bali-peethas are to be subjected to all kriyas like sodhana, bhootha-srishti, lipi-praanaayaama-nyaasas, vyaapakas, arghya-pushpaanjali etc. Then homa is done. Kalasas for each Devatha are then done with pooja with the concemed manthras. The peetha is then fIxed by reciting prathishta manthras followed by nyaasa, neeraajanam, abhisheka by water of homa-kalasa, vasthra (cloth) pooja, nivedya, and offering of pure water followed by prasanna-pooja. This completes the parivaara-prathishtas of ashta-dik-paalas and upa-Devathas.
