Home > Temples of Kerala > Temple rites peetha-prathishtaAfter the installation of napumsaka-sila the next step is peetha-prathishta. If the peetha of the deity is large enough the rites are done at the garbha-graha itself as it is difficult to take it inside the garbha-grha after the construction of sreekovil. On the other hand if the peetha is small it is subjected to sakthi-aavaahana (imbibing power) and is taken in procession to garbha-grha with the beating of paani. There the peetha is installed without any tilt after a number of intricate rites like pranava-sakthi, aadhaara-sakthi, samashti, pancha-thathwa, sakthi pranava, lipi-nyaasa, peetha manthras etc. Then offerings are made and peetha-pooja conducted before the peetha is covered with a red cloth with the thaanthric-manthra of thaala-thraya. There are slight changes in the procedure in respect of consecration of peethas relating to Siva-lingas.
