Home > Temples of Kerala > Suddhi and Viseshal-suddhi Suddhi and Viseshal-suddhiIt is confmed to the rites associated with items of work, done prior to temple festivals like aatta-visesham, uthsava etc. When thottu-pani is in progress it is essential to conduct nithya-punyaaham on the days of work as it is essential to free the place from any kind of pollution, so that the full chaithanya (power) is retained by the deity for blessing the devotees. The rites performed before aatta-visesham, uthsava etc are known as viseshaal-suddhi (special purificatory rite).The procedure is almost similar but more elaborate in nature. When a suddhi has already been conducted with a festival (visesham) and no thottu-pani is done thereafter, then there is no necessity for a fresh suddhi before the next occasional rite like aatta-visesham.
