Home > Temples of Kerala > Temple rites Thathwa-homa and kalasasEither due to ignorance or mistake, defects in the. kriyas (rites) may occur in the rites from first to seventh day. To ward off such defects a praayaschhittha (expiation rite), known as thathwa-homa with kalasa-pooja, is done on the forenoon of the eighth day. The procedure of kalasa-pooja is similar to earlier one with the difference of manthras. However, the rites like lipi-pankaja pooja, moortthi-aavaahana, kala-aavaahana, vidya-aavaahana, thathwa-aavahn.a etc. are done and the rite is concluded by nivedya and prasanna-pooja. The thathwas at the time of nivedya are different for each deity like kopa-thathwa for Vislunu, sakthi-thathwa for Siva, praana-thathwa for earth, maaya-thathwa for Bhadrakaali etc. The number of thathwa-manthra varies according to the deity at the homa-kunda. After homa.the sainpaatha is also collected ,in these kalasas and followed by nivedya and prasanna-pooja. They are then kept covered with clothes and kept for the night.
