The worship of Siva in the early moming of the day, known as aardra-darsanam, is considered very auspicious. It is mainly a festival of the Hindu women-folk. The day commemorates not only the death of Kamadeva, the cupid of our Hindu mythology, but also as the day of his restoration to life at the intercession of Goddess Parvathi. Being the birthday of Lord Siva, the women-folk are also supposed to join Parvathi in the delightful celebration of the birthday of Her husband. The details of observance of Thiruvaathira-vratha are not described here as it is beyond the scope of this volume but it is worth-mentioning that the vratha is observed by maidens to get good husbands and to have prosperity for the husbands in case of married women.
