Home > Temples of Kerala > usha-pooja usha-poojaThe fIrst worship is usha-pooja or pooja at dawn. This pooja corresponds to prathama-sandhya (ie first of thri-sandhya) followed by recital of Gaayathri. Though generally the time of usha-pooja is 30 minutes after the sunrise there are variations to these timings like the Sree Ananthapadmanabhaswamy temple (Trivandrum) at 4.30 a.m., Sree Krishana temple (Guruvayur) at 4.30 a.m, Sree Krishna temple (Thiruvarpppu, near Kottayam) at just before dawn and Sree Rajarajeswara temple (Taliparamba) at 7.30 a.m. etc. In temples having only one pooja in the morning, this time has little relevance as they conduct the pooja before 10 a.m. As indicated earlier usha-nivedyam precedes the usha-pooja. If there is no ethrtth pooja in the temple Sree-bali is conducted just after usha-pooja.
