Chemmeen Ada- Prawn Cutlets

Ingredients of Chemmeen Ada

Serves: 6

A Muslim dish.

500 gms medium-sized prawns

¼ cup rice flour

6 green chillies, chopped

10 shallots, chopped

3-cm piece ginger, chopped

2 stalk curry leaves, chopped

1 tsp salt

1 cup oil

Method of Preparation of Chemmeen Ada

  • Shell prawns, remove heads, devein and wash.
  • Place prawns in a pan with scant ½ cup water and cook over high heat till tender.
  • Mash well and mix in remaining ingredients except oil. Roll mixture into walnut-sized balls and flatten to form cutlets.
  • Heat oil in a kadhai and deep fry cutlets till golden.
  • Serve with rice or porotta, or as a snack.

Variation: Boned fish can be substituted for prawns.
