Eenthapazhavum Narangayum Chertha Achar – Date and Lime Pickle

Ingredients of Eenthapazhavum Narangayum Chertha Achar

Makes: ¾ kg

Malayali Muslims usually serve this pickle with biryani.

10 thin-skinned limes

1 heaped tbsp salt

250 gms seedless dates

5-cm piece ginger, chopped

3 cloves garlic, chopped

3 ½ cups white vinegar

3 tbsp red chilli powder

Method of Preparation of Eenthapazhavum Narangayum Chertha Achar

  • Wash limes, dry thoroughly and cut into 8 pieces each.
  • Rub limes with salt and keep in a stoneware pot for 3 days.
  • Cut dates in half and add to limes with ginger, garlic and vinegar. Mix well and set aside for 24 hours.
  • Mix in chilli powder, bottle and use after 2 weeks.
