Meen/Chemmeen Moily - Seafood Moily

Ingredients

Serves: 6

A Chirstian dish.

500 gms seafood (pearl spot/pomfret/prawns)

1 cup oil

2 medium-sized onions,chopped

4 green chillies,chopped

3-cm piece ginger,chopped

2 medium-sized tamotoes,chopped

1 stalk curry leaves

1 cup coconut milk

Marinade:

Juice of 2 limes

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp salt

Ground to a fine paste:

2 cloves garlic,chopped

3 cloves

3-cm stick cinnamon,broken into pieces

1 tsp fennel (badi saunf)

3 tsp red chilli powder

2 tsp coriander powder

2 tsp black pepper powder

4 tsp water

Method of Preparation

  • Clean dish (if used),cut into 5-cm pieces,wash and drain.Shell prawns (if used),remove heads,devein,wash and drain.
  • Combine ingredients for marinade,mix in seafood and marinate for 20 minutes.
  • Drain seafood and reserve any marinade left over.

  • Heat oil in a kadhai,add sea food and fry.(5-10 minutes for fish;5 minutes for prawns.)Remove from oil,drain and set aside.
  • Reduce oil to 2 tbsp,add onions,green chillies,ginger,tomato and curry leaves,and fry till onions turn brown.
  • Stir in ground paste and fry for 2 minutes.
  • Add seafood with reserved marinade and scant 1/2 cup water.Mix gently,cover pan and cook over low heat for 5 minutes.
  • Stir in coconut milk and remove from heat.
  • Serve with appam,pathiri or idiappam.
