Nenthrapazham Chertha Thenga Halva - Plantain and Coconut Halva

Ingredients of Nenthrapazham Chertha Thenga Halva

Serves : 6

8 ripe plantains

¾ tbsp + 1 ¼ tbsp ghee

1 medium-sized, fresh coconut, grated

2 ½ cups sugar

1 ½ cups milk

Method of Preparation of Nenthrapazham Chertha Thenga Halva

  • Steam plantains for 10 minutes, peel and mush.
  • Heat ¾ tbsp ghee in a frying pan, add coconut and fry till brown, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and set aside with ghee in the pan.
  • Place plantains, sugar, milk and remaining ghee in a pan and cook till it begins to thicken, stirring constantly.
  • Add coconut and continue to cook and stir till it thickens to the consistency of a very thick porridge.
  • Remove from heat, spread on a flat greased tray, allow to cool and cut into squares.
