Thalachor Kari - Brain Curry
Ingredients
Serves: 4
A Christian dish.
500 gms lambs' brains
Juice of 3 limes
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tbsp oil
3 medium-sized onions,chopped
4 medium-sized tomatoes,chopped
2 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp black pepper powder
2 cups coconut milk
Method of Preparation
- Wash brains and keep whole.
- Dip in boiling hot water for 5 minutes.Drain and dip incold water for 15 minutes.Drain again,remove membranes and wash well.
- Place whole brains in a pan with lime juice,salt and 3/4 cup water,and cook over medium heat for 10 minutes.
- Drain and cut brains into small pieces.
- Heat oil in a pan,add onions and tomatoes,and fry till onions turn translucent.
- Sprinkle in spice powders and gently mix in brains with scant 1/2 cup water.
- Bring to boil and cook till almost dry
- Stir in coconut milk and simmer over low heat for 2 minutes.
- Serve with porotta,pathiri,appam or idiappam.
